Cisco Wants You! After his Army Service, Nir Bar Natan Gets Recruited

Enthusiasm for IT often starts young, and at the age of 17, Israeli Nir Bar Natan had already fulfilled a great ambition, and was studying hard at his local Networking Academy.

He remembers that time well: “I enjoyed the practical hands on activity, using high-level programs as Packet Tracer, visiting Cisco and being one of the ‘chosen’ ones to take part in this program,” he recalls.

Now 22 years old, he is happily employed at Cisco as a Test Engineer, after an interlude in the army.

He was introduced to the Networking Academy while still at school by his computer science teacher, who obviously recognised the young man’s potential and enthusiasm for IT. As Nir says: “I first started working in this field because I knew that it would provide me with important knowledge about advanced technology.”

The program was challenging and Nir’s studies were not without their problems, as he recounts: “The biggest difficulties I had to deal with were the constant use of English language and the stress of taking exams.”

Despite this stress, Nir passed his CCNA and CCNP courses and also studied as a Cisco firewall specialist.

Like the majority of young people in his native Israel, Nir was required to undertake military service in the Israeli Defence Force (IDF). Luckily he was given the opportunity of developing his IT skills whilst serving his country when he was placed in a one of the IDF’s Technological Units.

Whilst there, his talents were again noticed and he was recommended to Cisco by his Commanding Officer. After being discharged from the IDF, he took advantage of this recommendation and tried his hardest to become part of what he describes as “The Cisco Family”.

His efforts paid off, and now he is an enthusiastic and hardworking member of that ‘family’. His success at the Academy was obviously a key factor in joining the company.

But according to Nir he took away more than qualifications and experience from the Networking Academy. He explains: “It gave me the opportunity to be a part of a wonderful family, fulfil my dreams and become someone that I always wanted to be.”
