Kerry-Lynne Thomson

Job:
Cisco Networking Academy Instructor
Kerry-Lynn's career has benefited more than most from the opportunities of global travel. She started out by earning her CCNA and going on to become a lab assistant, teaching the same course to a fresh batch of students, part-time. "I then became more involved with teaching and became an instructor in Cisco Networking Academy," she recalls.
Over the course of the next seven years, Kerry-Lynn was to gain an impressive selection of qualifications, including CCNP, Network Security and Wireless. "I realised the immense benefit of the theory," she comments. "But more importantly - the practical side of the courses." Her dedicated work on these courses, and continued interest in the programme was soon rewarded with places at two European conferences. Kerry-Lynn picks up the story:
"I was fortunate enough to be chosen as one of seven students from the EMEA region to assist in networking for the Networkers Conference in Paris, France in 2000. A few months later, I was one of three students chosen to assist in networking another Cisco conference in Monte Carlo."
Returning to Port Elizabeth, she immediately put her international experience to good use, culminating in her taking a position as Assistant Academy Manager in 2007.
Her extensive experience of both the theoretical and practical aspects of networking is matched by a long-term knowledge of the programme itself, which made her an ideal candidate.
And what about those students that she has responsibility for now? Kerry-Lynn has this advice for them; and all their contemporaries in Cisco Networking Academy:
"Take every opportunity you can to learn! IT is constantly changing and the Cisco Networking Academy is an ideal way to stay on the cutting edge!"
