George Kosnetzof
Age:
26
Country:
Greece
Job:
Network Administrator
Sci-Fi Dreams Inspired ICT Professional
George Kosnetzof joined the Networking Academy program to back up his fascination for technology with first-class knowledge and experience - and start a career in the field he loves.
"From my early years I have found information technology very interesting," says 26-year-old George Kosnetzof. "I think what fascinates me most is the creation and maintenance of something that some years ago was only a sci-fi scenario." Kosnetzof is a network administrator for Plaisio Computers, S.A, a leading NetRiders challenger, and a Cisco Networking Academy® student at the International Learning Institute (Interlei) in Greece.
Kosnetzof heard about the Networking Academy while serving in the Greek navy. After completing his military service, he found a job in technical support, but wanted to raise his technical understanding of IT. He decided to enroll in Networking Academy because he says, "if you manage to be part of an academy you are with the leaders of networking!"
Kosnetzof quickly noticed an improvement in his abilities and confidence: "After the first Cisco CCNA® classes, I was able to understand the technologies we used a lot better and that made my work supervisors notice me. Also, because of the confidence that the academy provided me, I sent CVs to the most important companies and had a lot of job offers." One offer led to his current position.
While studying for his CCNA certification, Kosnetzof also found time to participate in NetRiders and, as a result of his excellent performance, won a scholarship to complete the Cisco CCNP® curriculum. He cites the real-life aspects of his Networking Academy experience as the key to his success, as well as the influence of his instructor: "Mr. Stasinopoulos treated us as engineers and not students, which was why I was so passionate about NetRiders and was able to win."
The practical approach to networking has also helped Kosnetzof considerably in his work. "I feel really confident configuring switches and routers and that helps me very much in my job, because I am now able to provide troubleshooting solutions under a lot of pressure," he says.
