Networking Expert Motors into Great Job
Getting an important job in IT is one thing, but keeping hold of it and progressing rapidly in the profession and your chosen organization is quite another. In order to thrive in the real world of IT, you have to do more than pass exams.
Hitting the ground running in a new role is a great way to impress any employer, a strategy that anyone who takes advantage of the Networking Academy can use, whether they pass their exams or not.
Christophe Fauveau’s is a case in point. The 25-year-old Frenchman has been working at PSA Peugeot Citroën since January 2005.
“I began working on Network Services centralization and on partners’ connections, as a Network Engineer,” he explains. “Then, PSA Peugeot Citroën offered me the possibility to follow the CCIE R&S training course.”
Recognizing the opportunity, Christophe seized it with both hands, as he recounts: “That day I had already followed about nine weeks of training and I passed the CCIE written exam. With this training, PSA Peugeot Citroën wanted me to play a new part in the team, in the new role of Network Expert.”
He began his new job in January 2006. “The objective of this position is to participate in all the main network projects and to bring technical support to the participating Network Engineers,” explains Christophe.
What was the determining factor in achieving his goal?
“Studying at the Cisco Networking Academy really helped me to get a job. It gave me the possibility to get to grips with the task in hand straight from the get-go. Indeed, the program was the ideal preparation for the enterprise environment, unlike other training courses.”
Christophe remembers clearly how he first encountered the NetAcad Program: “I discovered Cisco Networking Academy at EFREI, the IT and Management Engineering School where I was studying to obtain my Engineering degree,”
“ I followed the CCNA course in my last year. It was the first time this optional program was available there, so there was a real sense of expectation when we started it.”
To begin with, Christophe was quite reticent about committing himself totally, as he explains: “At first, I decided to just try out the program, but when I discovered the quality of the training content, I decided to follow it to the end.”
“In time, I realized that it was really complementary to my Engineering School Program and allowed me to obtain all the network skills required in an enterprise environment.”
