Your CV: Just How Good is it?

We recently reviewed Dimitar Krstevski’s Curriculum Vitae here on NetAcad advantage.

Dimitar very bravely volunteered to submit his CV to our guest career expert Jason Deign who recently contributed an article – Why Should I Work for You? – to the site.

Since then, we have received emails from students inviting us to take a look at their CVs.

Now, we don’t have time to review ALL the CVs that we receive.

However, we have asked HR experts, careers advisors, and copy writers to take a look at  your resumes and a random sample will be posted to the site, to give you an idea on how to improve yours.

Meet Niall Donaghy.

Niall submitted his CV to Aine Doris, NetAcad advantage resident copy writer. Take a look at what Aine thought of Niall’s CV – together with feedback and suggestions.

Feedback:

A good CV. Well written and clear. However, I would suggest shortening it a bit – ensure that everything you include is really relevant to the kind of job you want to apply for.  If you are applying for a job as a Systems Engineer, for example, only select that experience, skills and interests that really relate to the kind of work.

I would also trim down some of your experiences/skills. Keep it short – ideally no more than 1 – 2 pages.

Finally – keep your language simple. Bear in mind that recruiters receive a huge quantity of emails. They will need to get to the important information fast.

Best of good luck to you Niall, and thanks for being a great sport!
